UPDATE: FDOT announced on Thursday, Feb. 27, that they are rescheduling the March dates to close a portion of I-4 near I-Drive. New closure dates have not been announced yet.
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation originally planned to close Interstate 4 at State Road 528 (Beachline Expressway) on Sunday, March 2, and Thursday, March 6, before they announced a delay in the road work. The dates and time listed in the story will be updated when FDOT releases new info. The work expected to be completed should remain the same.
The closures will begin as early as 10 p.m., and they are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. the next morning.
On March 2, all westbound I-4 lanes and ramps from Exit 74B (Adventure Way) to just west of State Road 528 will be closed overnight. On March 6, all eastbound lanes of I-4 at State Road 528 and the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound State Road 528 will be closed overnight.
Crews will pour concrete for the expanded bridge deck of the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound State Road 528, a critical step in the project to widen the ramp from one to two lanes in order to improve capacity and traffic flow at this busy interchange.
Construction schedules could change, depending upon weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
During the March 2 closure, motorists traveling west on I-4 will be directed to take Exit 74B to Adventure Way. They will travel north to Hollywood Way, turn left and travel west to Turkey Lake Road. From there, drivers will turn left onto southbound Turkey Lake Road and proceed until they reach Central Florida Parkway. Motorists will then turn left onto eastbound Central Florida Parkway and take the westbound I-4 entrance ramp on the right.
The ramp from westbound I-4 to State Road 528 will not be accessible during the March 2 closure, so motorists traveling west on I-4 to State Road 528 will exit at Exit 75B to southbound Kirkman Road (State Road 435). Motorists will proceed south on Kirkman Road to the Sand Lake Road (State Road 482) ramp, staying in the left lane and turning left at the traffic signal. From eastbound Sand Lake Road, motorists will turn right onto southbound John Young Parkway (State Road 423) and continue to State Road 528.
During the March 6 closure, motorists traveling east on I-4 will be directed to take Exit 72 to eastbound State Road 528. From State Road 528, drivers should use Exit 1 to access northbound International Drive, then take an immediate right turn onto the loop ramp to westbound State Road 528. From westbound State Road 528, motorists can proceed to eastbound I-4.
The ramp from westbound I-4 to State Road 528 will also not be accessible during the March 6 closure. Motorists traveling west on I-4 to State Road 528 must get off the roadway at Exit 75B and head onto southbound Kirkman Road. At the Sand Lake Road ramp, stay in the left lane and turn left at the traffic signal. From eastbound Sand Lake Road, motorists turn right onto southbound John Young Parkway and proceed to State Road 528.
Drivers should follow all posted detour signs, FDOT said.
