FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — With another cold front forecasted to move across Florida on Wednesday, Dec. 11, Brevard, Flagler, Lake and Volusia counties are preparing for the drop in temps by opening cold weather shelters.

Brevard County

Two cold-weather shelters will open in Brevard County on Wednesday night —at LifePoint Ministries in Titusville and the Daily Bread in Melbourne.

LifePointe Ministries will open at 5 p.m. Wednesday at 4220 South Hopkins Ave., in Titusville. Dinner and breakfast will be served.

Daily Bread will open at 6 p.m. at Joseph N. Davis Community Center, 2547 Grant Street. Dinner and breakfast also will be served.

Flagler County

For anyone who does not have a warm or safe place to stay, The Sheltering Tree at the Rock Transformation Center will open Wednesday evening at 5 p.m.

Temperatures are forecasted to fall below 40 degrees during the overnight hours on Dec. 11, which is the criteria for opening cold weather shelters.

The county will also provide bus transportation along two routes:

East side of the county

  • Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
  • McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
  • Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
  • Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:45 p.m.

West side of the county

  • Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
  • Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Boulevard, 4:30 p.m.
  • Bridges United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street, 4:30 p.m. (listed as the same pickup time because of the close proximity)

The Rock Transformation Center is located at 2200 N. State Street and the shelter will close at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Lake County

Lake County is opening a cold-weather shelter to assist those vulnerable to freezing on Wednesday at LifePointe Church at 3551 East Orange Ave. in Eustis.

The shelter opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday and closes at 8 a.m. Thursday.

LakeXpress, the county’s fixed-route bus service, will provide free transportation for residents riding to the shelter. Residents who cannot access LakeXpress but need travel accommodations to the cold weather shelter may call Lake County Connection at 352-742-2612 by 5 p.m. to arrange transportation.

Lake County buses will be available at 7 a.m. to transport residents to regularly scheduled stops in the morning.

Volusia County

The Bridge, operated by the Neighborhood Center at 421 S. Palmetto Ave., DeLand, will open its doors for cold weather sheltering at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 11.
