What You Need To Know

- The district is holding a job fair Tuesday
- The job fair starts at 8 a.m. at the Transportation Services Department in Kissimmee
The district is not short of school buses, but it doesn't have the drivers needed for them. It needs at least 30 more drivers, district officials said.
The job fair Tuesday is one way the school district seeks to recruit more drivers. They are also increasing wages to $16.50 once drivers complete their training, which Osceola County will provide.
A national study from the youth transportation organization, HopSkipDrive, shows nearly nine out of every 10 respondents said their operations have been constrained by the school bus driver shortage. Nearly 30% of respondents said they are severely strained.
The study found the main reasons for shortages across the nation include recruiting issues, driver pay and drivers are retiring.
The job fair starts at 8 a.m. at the Transportation Services Department in Kissimmee.
