ORLANDO, Fla. - The summer months are the heart of rainy season for central Florida. While it seemed like a typical soaker of a summer for some of us, others largely missed out on the summertime downpours.

Orlando was the only city in central Florida to finish with a surplus of more than three inches above average. The total rainfall for summer checked in with a little more than 25 inches total.

Daytona and Melbourne both finished closer to normal, which is around 18 to 19 inches.

Sanford and Leesburg were on the other side of the spectrum. These two cities finished sharply drier than average.

Leesburg finished with the largest deficit of more than five inches of rain below normal. Sanford fell shy of average rainfall by more than three and a half inches.

Temperatures for the months of June through August finished close to average for all cities. 

The biggest spread in temperatures were in Orlando and Sanford. Both cities finished more than a degree warmer than normal.

Afternoon high temperatures finished close to the summer averages for all five of the main obeservation sites across central Florida.

The biggest difference in temperatures were for the morning lows.

Orlando experienced its third-warmest summer morning low temperatures on record while Sanford's lows were the fourth-warmest on record and Melbourne's were the sixth-warmest on record.

Orlando's and Sanford's low temperatures were nearly two degrees warmer than normal. Melbourne's low temperatures were more than two degrees above average.

Sanford led central Florida with 78 90-degree days from June through August. Orlando came in second with 75 90-degree afternoons followed by Leesburg wtih 73.
