DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — If there is a weekend that hotel owners count on for revenue, it’s the weekend of the Daytona 500.
Officials say only Bike Week can top revenues, but that's because it takes place over a longer period of time.
Either way, it’s an important weekend for businesses in Daytona Beach.
According to the Volusia County’s hospitality association, hotels across Daytona Beach are sold out due to Sunday’s Daytona 500.
The annual race is one of the largest events for the county each year attracting thousands to the raceway and surrounding hotels and businesses.
Despite the threat of rain, business appears to be going strong.
Bob Davis, Volusia County’s President of the Lodging & Hospitality Association, said it’s going to be a great weekend for business.
“We have 13,500 rooms in the Volusia County district, and they are all sold out,” he said.
Holiday Inn general manager Tim Clapsaddle said it’s a busy weekend along Daytona Beach, especially for his hotel located right on the ocean.
“The race is a very big deal to us," he said. “We are sold out for this weekend."
Wisconsin resident Garret Kamenar, who said he's been coming to the race for 30 years, spends thousands of dollars during each trip to Florida.
Meanwhile at the newly built Renaissance Daytona Beach hotel, 190 rooms have been sold out most of the week.
“So, starting this past Tuesday, we have been sold out and we are going to be sold out this entire weekend,” said general manager Tim Marleau.
Davis, who’s been in charge of the hotel association for 22 years, said the Daytona 500 weekend is "our World Series."
