ORLANDO, Fla. — When you think of holiday travel, you usually think of people heading to the airport to get to their destination.
But it’s not just airports that are busy — area bus stations have also seen a large number of travelers this holiday season.
According to AAA, 2.3 million travelers are expected to travel by bus, train and cruise this holiday season.
Bus traveler Donald Hooks was on his way back to New York after spending time with family in Central Florida.
“I don’t know. Lately, the last 4 or 5 years, I like riding the bus," he said. "I don’t know, it’s just me. I’m not in no hurry anymore. I have a patient mind. I’m 65."
His round-trip bus ticket to Buffalo cost him $300, and he said he likes the view from the bus.
“Sightseeing. You know, just taking pictures and video. It’s nice, man,” Hooks said.
Jennifer Arthur was getting picked up at the station after arriving in Orlando from Tampa early Thursday morning, and said taking the bus is faster and less hassle than flying.
“It’s quick, it’s easy. Especially when you’re traveling between Tampa and here or anything like that," she said. "And it’s not that expensive to do."
Meanwhile, Ann Europio and her husband were leaving the terminal, headed back to Palm Beach.
The two came to Central Florida for their honeymoon.
“This is our third attempt,” said Europio.
She said they had to cancel their celebration two previous times.
So this time, they took the SunRail to Orlando and will take the bus back to South Florida.
For the couple, Orlando seemed like the obvious honeymoon destination.
“One of the most popular places to come in," Europio said. "So, we decided to come here and explore Orlando."
According to Greyhound, more than 12 million people traveled by bus last year, and they expect to reach or even top those numbers this year.
