DELTONA, Fla. — The Lyonia Preserve in Deltona is offering guests a unique experience to cut their own “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree on Saturday, Dec. 14.

This event helps support the habitat for Florida scrub jays by removing sand pines that can become overgrown, while providing places for predators to hide.

Guests can pick their favorite sand pine to cut down between 9 and 10:30 a.m. They must also reserve a spot ahead of time and bring their own loppers, hand saw and gloves to remove the pines from the habitat.

The sand pine resembles a “Charlie Brown” style Christmas tree because they are sparse, can become lopsided, and grow between 4 and 5 feet tall. The trees can be decorated and left outside for the wild.

To make a reservation, call 386-789-7207, ext. 21028. The event will take place at the Lyonia Environmental Center at 2150 Eustace Ave. in Deltona.
