ORLANDO, Fla. — A 7-year-old Orange County boy who went missing Monday evening has been found dead in a body of water near his home, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"We are devastated to inform you that our deputies have found Emerson Felix, deceased, in a body of water near his home where he was reported missing," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "Our detectives are still looking into how this tragedy occurred."

Emerson Felix had gone missing from his home on Flintshire Street — near Rio Grand Avenue and 40th Street — at around 6:45 p.m. Monday, investigators said.

"We mourn Emerson’s loss and extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family, his classmates and all who love him," the Sheriff's Office statement said.
