Central Florida schools are now working to reopen following Hurricane Milton

Here's a county-by-county list of when students will return to class. 

LAKE COUNTY

Lake County schools plan to resume normal operations on Monday, Oct. 14. Officials said they will send an update this weekend to confirm. 

SUMTER COUNTY

Sumter County schools have not made an announcement on when students will return to class following Hurricane Milton. 

SEMINOLE COUNTY

Seminole County students will return to class on Tuesday, Oct. 15, following a previously scheduled student holiday and teacher work day on Monday. 

FLAGLER COUNTY

Flagler County students will return to class on Monday, Oct. 14. All activities scheduled for the weekend are still set to take place as planned. 

ORANGE COUNTY

Orange County schools will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Monday was a prescheduled student holiday and teacher workday. However, all extracurricular and after-school activities may resume on Monday, Oct. 14. 

Football games previously scheduled for this week will be played on Monday. Any other school event canceled due to the storm may be rescheduled. 

The hurricane make-up day will be Friday, Oct. 25. 

VOLUSIA COUNTY

Volusia County students will return to class on Tuesday, Oct. 15, following a previously scheduled student holiday and teacher duty day on Monday. 

Additionally, grading period 1 will now end on Oct. 17, 2024, and grading period 2 will now begin on Oct. 18, 2024. Information will be communicated in the future about making up these instructional days.

BREVARD COUNTY

Brevard County students will return to class on Tuesday, Oct. 15, following a previously scheduled student holiday and teacher duty day on Monday.  

OSCEOLA COUNTY

Osceola County students will return to class on Tuesday, Oct. 15, following a previously scheduled student holiday and teacher duty day on Monday.  

MARION COUNTY

Marion County Schools will reopen as normal on Monday, Oct. 14. 

Colleges and Universities

UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA

UCF suspended operations on all campuses and all classes, including online classes, from Tuesday, Oct. 8, through Friday, Oct. 11.

UCF will reopen for normal operations as planned on Saturday, Oct. 12, and all classes will resume Monday, Oct. 14.

STETSON UNIVERSITY

Stetson University does not have power on the DeLand campus at this time and has caneled classes on Monday, Oct. 14. Classes are tenatively set to resume on Tuesday, Oct. 15. 

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA

UF has canceled classes and closed offices on Wednesday and Thursday due to Hurricane Milton. 

DAYTONA STATE COLLEGE

Daytona State College announced Friday that it expected to reopen Monday, Oct. 14 for all classes, activities and campus services. Faculty will be flexible if students evacuated or are still without power/internet, the school said in a statement. Students should check their Falcon Mail and contact instructors Monday for specific questions about classes. 

EMBRY-RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY

Embry-Riddle has closed campuses and canceled classes Tuesday through Friday due to Hurricane Milton. 

FULL SAIL UNIVERSITY

Full Sail's campus will be closed and classes will be canceled from Tuesday through Thursday due to Hurricane Milton.

LAKE-SUMTER STATE COLLEGE

Lake-Sumter State College will close all campus locations and cancel all classes and activities beginning at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, October 8 and remain closed on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10.

RASMUSSEN UNIVERSITY

All Rasmussen University Florida campuses, including in Central Florida, will remain closed through Thursday, Oct. 10, due to Hurricane Milton. They will begin to shift online on Thursday where possible. Faculty and staff will work remotely on Thursday, if they are able. The University plans to reopen its campuses in Florida on Friday—pending conditions.

KEISER UNIVERSITY

Keiser University has closed campuses in Orlando, Melbourne and Daytona Beach through Thursday, Oct. 10, due to Hurricane Milton. Additional announcements will be made as necessary.
