  • The original alert for the closure went out around 6 p.m.

  • Officials gave the all clear just before 8 p.m.

  • One person said she was upset over the lack of communications from officials

The original alert for the closure went out at around 6 p.m. Monday after the city of Orlando’s ‘Active Calls for Service’ website showed a call for a bomb threat in the same location as the airport, which is no longer active and showing on the site.

The Orlando Police Department cleared the area just before 8 p.m. and airport officials reopened Terminal B.

Ashley Papagni, the city of Orlando's information officer, explained to situation to Spectrum News on Tuesday morning.

"At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon, the City of Orlando Fire Department responded to a report of an unattended baggage that was deemed suspicious. In an abundance of caution, traffic to airport Terminal B was diverted. Investigators found no hazard or associated threat. Airport operations have since resumed," she stated in an email.

However, the two-hour closure resulted in more than a dozen flights delayed and many travelers wondering exactly why law enforcement shut down the terminal. Although, police have not officially confirmed what type of threat, if any, caused the closure.

Travelers expressed their frustration over the lack of communication from officials.

“We were sitting in traffic for about 40 minutes and she got a flight delay for 30 minutes, which we thought was average. We got here, I noticed that the police have blocked off the Terminal B parking garage, so we went to Terminal C. Still nothing from the carrier,” said Jeri Cole, a mother of a traveler.
