ORLANDO, Fla. – On Friday, Orlando leaders will be introducing new safety measures in the Downtown Entertainment District following a mass shooting two weeks ago that left two people dead and several others injured.

Usually during the weekends orange avenue is shutdown, people can walk and party in the streets. Now the city is working on re-opening roads to traffic and keeping people off the road.
It will start Friday, with barriers along Orange Avenue. Traffic still will not be allowed on the road, but the barriers will be the first step in keeping people on the sidewalk. The goal is to eventually get vehicle traffic moving on the road, instead of foot traffic, pivoting away from the party scene into more of a model that supports business traffic.
All these changes are coming after that mass shooting two weeks ago during the early morning hours of Nov. 1 that took place in downtown Orlando, killing two people and injuring many more. The 17-year-old suspect Jaylen Dwayne Edgar is facing several charges and is being held without bond.
