ORANGE CITY, Fla. — A 2-year-old girl was found dead in a hot car on Thursday after being left hours after a lunch trip with her family, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is reporting.
They say the girl’s parents rushed her to the hospital after discovering she was still in the car.
The family told detectives they went to DeLand for lunch and returned to their home in Orange City around 2:40 p.m. with the girl and her two older brothers, ages 15 and 8.
The parents found her unresponsive in the car around 5 p.m. and drove her to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased just before 6 p.m.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident.
