According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, investigators were told about the video around 11:40 a.m. In the TikTok post, a 16-year-old student can be seen with what appears to be a gun tucked in his waistband, deputies said.

Officials were able to make contact with the teen in the school's gymnasium, and when he was asked to show deputies his waistband, they reported seeing a "pistol grip visible in the front," according to a VCSO release.

The 9mm handgun was reportedly found loaded with a 10-round magazine, and a second magazine loaded with 11 bullets and a holster were found in the teen's backpack, investigators said.

"Further investigation revealed that (the teen) stole the handgun from a relative's locked closet without permission," the Sheriff's Office release said. "The relative is pressing charges for the theft."

The student who recorded the TikTok video told deputies that didn't didn't realize the 16-year-old had a gun and "thought he was showing his abs when he pulled up his shirt."

The teen allegedly told investigators that he brought the gun to campus because he'd been robbed at work the week before.

He has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property, grand theft of a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm.

He was taken into custody by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood praised the responding deputy and the student who reported the TikTok video.

"This is exactly what we ask of every single person on every school campus in Volusia County: See something, say something, and help us keep our schools safe for everyone," he said in the VCSO release.
