Earlier this month, the health department reduced testing at the designated school sites because of a drop in demand.
Now, they are halting it all together until further notice.
Testing is still available at the county-run sites at Barnett Park and the Econ Soccer Complex in Orlando, as well as the former Clarcona Elementary School in Apopka.
Since Aug. 2, OCPS reported more than 5,500 student cases, but cases are gradually dropping over the last 20 days.
Orange County Health Officer Doctor Raul Pino said the department is staying vigilant with contact tracing in schools, as it looks to eventually offer testing in each school.
"That requires some investment, a little bit of work, about 32 million dollars a year that will cost. We are in the process. We have the resources. We are just designing, putting it together, and probably by December, or even before that, we could be offering testing in all of the schools," Pino said earlier this month.
Pino said as the Orange County health department is designing this new program, it would be during school hours for students who are symptomatic or asymptomatic.
The three county-run testing sites are still free and open daily.
