STATEWIDE — Angel Rivera, the father-in-law of Nicole Montalvo and was convicted of her murder, has died in prison, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

In July of this year, both the 56-year-old Rivera and his son Christopher Otero-Rivera, the estranged husband of Montalvo, were both sentenced to life in prison for her murder in 2019.
Montalvo’s family told Spectrum News 13 that he died on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
The Florida Department of Corrections has listed Rivera’s “date out-custody” as Wednesday, Sept. 22. He was incarcerated on Aug. 25, 2021.
How he has died has not been confirmed yet.
Both he and his son were found guilty of second-degree murder, abuse of a dead body and tampering with physical evidence back in April.
During their trial in July of this year, prosecutors said Rivera and Otero-Rivera both killed, dismembered and buried Montalvo back in 2019 to gain custody of the couple’s son, Elijah.
When giving her victim impact statement in July, Montalvo’s sister Christina Montalvo said she was dealing with mental health issues from her sister's death, and she was not sure if she would ever get closure.
