ORLANDO, Fla. — Walt Disney World officials on Tuesday announced some changes to their Genie+ service as well as Lightning Lane entry usage.

Starting July 24, Disney Genie+ service will become the “Lightning Lane Multi Pass,” while individual Lightning Lane entry will now be known as the “Lightning Lane Single Pass.”

Officials said the move is to help give their guests additional future planning options.

The Lightning Lane Multi Pass will allow guests to make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a theme park before their visit, officials said. Guests will also be able to choose available times as they make their selections.

Once a selection is used, guests will have to check the My Disney Experience app for availability to make and additional selection on the day of their visit.

Lightning Lane Single Pass will work as it does currently, where guests can secure a time to ride one of the park’s attractions, but they will now be able to make their purchases and begin any future planning for their visit.

Guests may purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass or both, officials said. The app will be updated with a new option to purchase the passes in one transaction.

Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel and other select hotels will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance, for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance.

Disneyland Resort will also use the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single pass names beginning July 24. The way guests purchase, select and redeem Lightning Lane passes at Disneyland Resort will remain the same.  The features of Disney Genie service will continue to be available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, officials said.
