The interactive blaster game experience features characters from the “Despicable Me” films, more specifically the group of notorious supervillains from “Minions: The Rise of Gru” known as the Vicious 6.

For visitors, the goal is to try to earn a spot in the supervillain group. To do this, they will grab a device called the E-Liminator X and blast at various targets while standing on a moving walkway that takes them through different scenes.

That’s one part of the interactive experience. The other part involves the Universal Orlando mobile app, which will let visitors unlock other levels of play.

In the app, which can be synced to the blasters, visitors can customize their blasters by changing what type of blasts they can fire with the two triggers. Options include fart bombs, banana bombs and freeze rays.

Visitors can also collect loot in the attraction and keep track of them in the app. They can also unlock missions that can be played within the attraction.

The more that visitors play, and boost their score, the more perks and missions they can unlock in the app — changing their experience in the attraction.

“There are multiple missions that kind of change the overall objective,” said Victor Lugo, director of Immersive Experiences, Universal Creative. “Your base objective is to cause as much destruction as possible and gather loot. But the different villains will challenge you with different objectives and, by doing so, you’ll be able to earn rewards and perks from it as well.”

And the best way to get a high score? Get those collectibles.

“Throughout the attraction, the highest scoring item — I’m telling you the secret — are the collectibles,” Lugo said. “These will get you lots and lots of points.”

Using the app isn’t required for Minion Blast, it’s just something to enhance the experience. And the attraction is the first one at Universal Orlando to utilize this kind of integrated play.

Minion Blast is just one part of the new Minion Land at Universal Studios Florida. The land also includes Minion Cafe, a new character meet-and-greet location, the Bake My Day bakery and themed merchandise.
