The technology, which has been used at Disney World and Disneyland resorts, will operate under the name DisneyBand+ when in use on Disney cruise ships.
While on board, passengers can use the wearable devices to unlock their staterooms, charge food and merchandise to their rooms and link photos.
The devices are also waterproof and can be worn when on the AquaMouse water coaster or when snorkeling at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.
DisneyBand+ will also have special interactions with different elements during the cruise, including the nighttime fireworks.
MagicBand+, an update to the original MagicBand, debuted at Disney World in July 2022 before launching at Disneyland later that year. These devices, unlike their predecessor, light up and feature a rechargeable battery. The wristbands sell for $34.99 for solid designs. For themed designs, prices start at $44.99.
DisneyBand+ will begin previews on the Disney Wish this summer before it rolls out to Disney’s other cruise ships.
The addition of DisneyBand+ comes as Disney Cruise Line continues to expand its fleet. The cruise line is expected to debut its new Disney Treasure in 2024 as well as its new private Bahamas destination Lighthouse Point.
