- Cosmic Rewind will be one of the longest indoor coasters in world and will also feature a backward launch
While the public will have to wait until next year to experience the roller coaster, Disney World president Jeff Vahle was able to take an early ride.
In a post on his Instagram account earlier this week, Vahle shared his reaction to the ride.
“I have three words: It is AWESOME!!!” the post said.
Cosmic Rewind, part of the park’s massive transformation project, is scheduled to open next summer. When it does, it will be one of the longest indoor coasters in the word. It will also feature a backward launch—a first for a Disney coaster.
Riders will speed along the track in vehicles that rotate 360 degrees, pointing them toward the action.
Taking inspiration from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, the attraction’s story put guests in what Disney is calling the Other-World showcase pavilion, where they will learn about the planet Xandar and its inhabitants.
Cosmic Rewind, located in the newly-named World Discovery neighborhood, is part of Epcot’s massive transformation. New attractions, shows and restaurants have opened at the park in recent months, including Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at the France Pavilion, the Space 220 restaurant, and the nighttime show “Harmonious.”
Other additions set to arrive at Epcot as part of the transformation include a “Moana”-themed attraction and Dreamers Point, which will feature a statue of Walt Disney.
