LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — An East Ridge High School student died in a crash in Clermont on Tuesday night, stated officials.

Police have not released the names of the victim, but Lake County Schools officials said the crash involved students from East Ridge High School.
The crash happened before 6 p.m. on U.S. 27 and Legendary Boulevard in Clermont, which took the life of a 17-year-old student who died at the scene, according to the Clermont Police Department in a press release.

Five others were taken to area hospitals. One was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and another was taken to South Lake Hospital, stated police.
It is still unclear what led up to the crash.
Sherrie Owens, Lake County Schools’ communications coordinator, said that counselors will be at the high school for students and employees.
“Schools family is holding close in our hearts our students who were involved in a tragic automobile accident last night," she said. "We are mourning the loss and wishing the very best for those who are still being treated for injuries."
