LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lake County woman says something needs to be done to address safety concerns along a road near Florida’s Turnpike.

Elizabeth Taylor says when there’s a crash on the turnpike, drivers will be re-routed to County Road 561A, in front of her home.

Even when there isn’t an incident, CR-561A is becoming busier, she says.

“It's very sad to see, and we have seen several accidents on this road,” Taylor said.

CR-561A is a two-lane road that has unfortunately seen its fair share of crashes.

Taylor is concerned she’ll be in the next wreck when turning into her driveway.

“When you're trying to pull in, you may have your blinkers on, but there have been many times that you're not sure if the person behind you is actually going to see you and stop,” she said.

Taylor contacted Traffic Inbox to see if there could be any changes to this county road, like turn lanes, bike lanes, or even a shoulder.

She has seen emergency vehicles stuck behind drivers that can’t pull over because the roadway doesn't have a shoulder.

“If a car can't get over and the fire trucks come trying to come by, obviously that's a problem,” Taylor said.

Unfortunately, a Lake County spokesman said adding shoulders or other improvements to County Road 561A would only happen if or when development occurs adjacent to the roadway. The county does plan to add a traffic signal at Hancock Road and CR-561A.

But more development isn’t what Taylor wants, as she wants to maintain her rural way of life.

“You really felt like you were living in the country,” she said.
