ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Magic two-way player Mac McClung will try to win the Slam-Dunk Contest for the third year in a row at NBA All--Star 2025 after being selected to compete again this year, the NBA announced.

His challengers will be Chicago Bulls rookie forward Matas Buzelis, San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Stephon Castle and Milwaukee Bucks second-year guard Andre Jackson Jr.

When McClung repeated last February, he became the first contestant to repeat as the event's champion since Zach LaVine in 2015 and 2016. If he wins again this year, he would be the first player to three-peat since the start of the event in 1984.

He wrapped up the title last year when he grabbed the ball out of Shaquille O'Neal's hands and leapt clear over the retired All-Star center to draw five perfect scores on his final attempt Saturday night and compile 98.8 points on his last two dunks to defeat Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown.

This year, however, McClung will be doing double-duty. He also was named to the Castrol Rising Stars tournament, an annual showcase of young NBA talent, with the G League team.

McClung, a 6-foot-2 guard, is signed to a two-way contract with the Osceola Magic and is the G League MVP from last season. He has spent most of his time with Osceola, however.

The tournament will give McClung another chance to showcase his basketball skills for NBA executives, too, as he seeks to get on an NBA team full time.

He will be joined in the tournament by two Orlando Magic teammates. Guard Anthony Black was added to the the Rising Stars roster on Friday as a replacement for an injured player, and forward Tristan da Silva was selected as a rookie when the original roster was announced.

Black and da Silva were drafted to Team Tim (Hardaway).

The tournament will be played Feb. 14 as part of NBA All-Star 2025.
