Jansson, 32, has started in 153 of the 159 matches in which he has played since joining the Lions in the 2019 season from AIK in Sweden’s top tier. He has scored five goals and three assists during that time.
"Since Robin joined us in 2019, we’ve seen him become the focal point of our back line and one of the key leaders within our group,” Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi said. “He’s shown a passion for his teammates and this city that is visible in everything he does. Our defense has become one of the best in the league, with Robin is a very big part of that transformation, and getting him signed for another couple years was a key part of our plans for the future.”
Jansson led a back line that helped Orlando City hold opponents to club-record scoreless matches across all competitions, including two in the playoffs against Nashville SC and one in the CONCACAF Champions League, keeping Liga MX’s Tigres UANL from scoring at El Volcán in Monterrey.
The center back played in all 34 of the Lions’ regular-season matchups and tied with winger Iván Angulo at 43 matches played last year across all competitions.
"I’m very happy to sign a new contract and continue the journey we started in 2019,” Jansson said. “I want to thank the club for all the support they have been giving me and for having confidence in me. To our fans, thank you for your love and support.”
