ORLANDO, Fla.— A bond between mother and son is special.

“He was side eyeing whoever was walking close for one second to think they were going to take him off his mommy’s lap. It was an absolute no go,” said Patrea Williams, Trilion Coles’ mom.

For UCF running back, Trilion Coles and his Mom, Patrea, it’s unbreakable.

“She’s my best friend. We talk about everything. We go over everything. She text me every day. I talk to her everyday. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think about her and she doesn’t think about me. We have that tight bond,” said Triion Coles, a running back at UCF and former Bishop Moore star.

Through thick and thin, their relationship has never faltered thanks to one consistent message.

“We’ve been saying that as a family since he was younger. Just make them believers because you have everything in you,” said Williams.

“Trilion you’re special. You’re light. You’re light to this world. Don’t let that dim out,” said Coles.

Last year his light withstood the toughest test yet.

“It’s crazy to think about. I couldn’t shower by myself. I had people to help me shower. I had a little scooter,” said Coles.

A ruptured achilles sidelined Coles but never shattered his drive.

“You just have to stay on the path and don’t give up because I’m living proof that you can keep going,” said Coles.

“He never even for one second ever got to that point. He believed what I said even though he kept working. He believed, he believed, he believed and now he gets to make them believers,” said Williams.

All he needed was an opportunity. The first came two weeks before this season started when Coles went from a walk-on to a full scholarship player.

It was a full circle moment for Coles and his number one believer.

Fast forward to week two against Bethune-Cookman when the next big opportunity came.

“Third quarter and I’m just sitting and I see his number and I’m like wait a minute he told me he was not playing,” said Williams.

Ten minutes later.

“He got into the end zone and I just looked up. That’s it, I looked up and I said my baby couldn’t walk this time last year. This is deeper than anything. This is deeper than a touchdown,” said Williams.

“Nothing but smiles,” said Coles.

As Coles gets ready to leave for the next game his mom is there to give him a hug and remind him of that one consistent message.

“Head up. Stay ready. Make them believers. I love you. Forever my giant,” said Williams.
