ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- The road to the NFL for the Griffin twins is one traveled together.

“To see it now, to see it all unfold, I wouldn’t change it for nothing in the world,” Shaquill Griffin said. “It started from Lakewood. Lakewood made a dream come true.”

The journey began at Lakewood High School. Both Griffin twins shined for the Spartans. The St. Petersburg football field is where they laid the foundation for their football future.

“We learned so much from not only sports but life skills also,” Shaquem Griffin said. “Lakewood gave us a lot.”

“Coming from Lakewood, it started off with just getting little college offers and the main thing was we was going to stick together no matter what,” Shaquill Griffin said.

UCF gave them that opportunity. The Knights were one of the few Division I programs to offer both Griffin brothers. And they rewarded that loyalty by helping turn a winless program into a self-proclaimed national champ.

“Losing every game is not fun, definitely not, but winning every game is tons of fun,” Shaquem Griffin said. “Oh my goodness, it was crazy.”

The wild ride continued to the NFL. Shaquill was the Seattle Seahawks third round pick in April of 2017. And then the improbable happened one year later. Seattle took Shaquem in the fifth round.

“My brother’s like, it’s that one percent chance and when someone says that one percent chance, you’re like this probably won’t happen,” Shaquem Griffin said. “But that one percent chance did happen and it was like, it was a dream come true.”

“When he gave me my first call on the first play that’s when it really hit me like, he’s actually playing on the same level, on the same team, this is really a dream come true,” Shaquill Griffin said.

Dreams coming true, together. That’s how it’s always been for the Griffin twins. They’re in this together.

“We ended up making a tackle together and I remember telling him, I said I got your back, I told you don’t got to worry about it no more,” Shaquill Griffin said. “So, it’s kind of funny just to go through those little small things that I’ll probably never forget in my life ever. I’ll never forget it.”
