Dean Morrison is a veteran L3Harris electrical engineer, working in the company’s space and airborne segment.

He's also one of the tech company's eight home-based video stars of its “Tech in 10” series, where third through sixth-grade students can learn about STEM — things like space debris, making sure rockets are safe to fly, tracking storms, 3D modeling, and engineering.

Morrison's video is about hardware, software, and firmware.

"I thought it would be a topic they would be interested in, because it ties into something they use every day, Morrison told Spectrum News.

"Your television, your computer, your phone, your gaming device,” each essential to running all of our electronic devices — a topic Morrison is passionate about.

"We've been trying to chip in in different ways during this pandemic," Morrison said.

It's a perfect for the father of three boys in 2nd, 4th and 6th grade, who like all students, are staying home while schools are closed.

"I know firsthand how, in this time where we are all sequestered at home, we are just looking for new ways to expand our learning," he said.

And there's proof Morrison's boys are learning: He gave them a pop quiz!

"They did 100 percent; they did fantastic!" he said.

L3Harris’ engineer hopes these quarantine lessons encourage students to go into STEM careers.

"Maybe they will become excited about a career in aerospace and maybe join the L3Harris team one day," Morrison said.
