MARION COUNTY, Fla. — An explosion at an Ocala laundromat injured four people on Tuesday evening, according to officials.

In an email to the media, Ocala Fire Rescue Public Information officer Ashley Lopez stated there was an explosion at the Classic Laundromat at 1423 NE 25th Ave. and firefighters were dispatched at around 6:19 p.m.
Fire rescue arrived to find “a single-level commercial structure, housing multiple shops, with smoke and flames coming from the area of the laundromat,” stated Lopez.
Four people were injured in the explosion, with two of them taken to a local hospital for treatment, she confirmed.
Firefighters were able to get into the laundromat from the rear to control the fire.
Lopez stated the fire not just impacted the laundromat, which the explosion caused traffic issues along NE 25th Avenue.
“Once the fire was extinguished inspectors assessed the building’s structural integrity, deeming the laundromat and seven adjacent shops inaccessible for regular operations,” she stated.
In addition to the Ocala Fire Rescue, the Ocala Police Department, Ocala Electric Utility, Ocala Water Resources, Ocala Building Department, Marion County Fire Rescue, and TECO Gas were all at the scene.
Inspectors with both the State Fires Marshals office and the Ocala Fire Rescue are investigating to find the cause of the explosion.
