Work is set to begin on Monday to fix the clock tower at Schenectady City Hall.
Originally built between 1931 and 1933, the tower was rebuilt following a fie in 1983, but has gone through wear and tear over time.
“The City Hall clocktower is an iconic part of Schenectady’s skyline and an important piece of our city’s history,” Mayor Gary McCarthy said in a statement. “This restoration project ensures that future generations will continue to enjoy this landmark.”
City officials say the clock tower and City Hall were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
City Engineer Chris Wallin says efforts are being made to preserve the clock tower's architectural integrity while keeping it safe and structurally sound.
Work is expected to go through July.
