WILDWOOD, Fla. — The city of Wildwood has announced asphalt rejuvenation work will begin next week along several streets and roads to maintain a high quality.

The city has also released maps of the roads that the work will affect.

The city’s Department of Public Works aims to maintain an average Pavement Condition Index (PCI) network rating of 82 along its more than 150 centerline miles of roads.

The rating is based on the standardized scale of 0 (worst) to 100 (best or new).

The city’s contractor, Pavement Technology Inc., will begin treating nearly 840,000 square yards of asphalt on Feb. 24. The work is expected to take two months to complete.

The city said each road segment is monitored and its condition analyzed to determine the most cost-effective and efficient treatment, including:

  • Traditional mill and overlay
  • Micro surfacing
  • Full-depth reclamation

Officials say this helps maintain the quality of city roads, extends the street life and protects taxpayer investment.

Through a specialized algorithm and engineering assessments, the city establishes its pavement management plan.

“We take great pride in the quality of our streets,” City Manager Jason McHugh said. “The commission and I consider exceptional roadway condition a priority, and we are fortunate to have a top team of public works professionals with the skills and experience to uphold those standards for the benefit of our residents.”

Residents on affected streets will be notified before work begins via a door flyer and will have access to their properties at all times during the treatments.
