ORLANDO — A former Florida lawmaker has been charged with two counts of theft of government property related to COVID relief fraud.
The charges against Carolina Amesty were announced Friday by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg.
Each count carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, he said.
Amesty served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives for Florida's 45th District from November 2022 to November 2024.
The case is being investigated by the U.S. Small Business Administration–Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
