VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Milton, which interrupted or halted their employment or self-employment, can apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance through FloridaCommerce.
DUA assists individuals who are ineligible for federal or state Reemployment Assistance benefits, provided they meet one of the following criteria:
- Is unemployed as a direct result of the major disaster
- Was scheduled to start employment but was unable to as a direct result of the major disaster
- Is unable to reach their job or self-employment location because the individual has to travel through an affected area and is prevented from doing so as a direct result of the major disaster
- Has become the primary breadwinner because the head of the household died as a direct result of the major disaster
- Is unable to work because of an injury that was a direct result of the major disaster
DUA covers weeks of unemployment from Oct. 6, 2024, through April 12, 2025, as long as a person’s unemployment continues to result from the disaster in designated disaster areas, including Volusia County. Applicants must submit their claims by Dec. 10.
To file a claim, individuals should visit www.floridajobs.org and click “File a Claim,” go to a local CareerSource Center, or call a customer service representative at 800-385-3920. Customer service representatives are available to assist from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
