The damage to her South Banana River Drive home unleashed by the storm was still fresh in Claudia Caudle’s mind Thursday.

Her daughter and granddaughter were home alone while she was out of town.

“And that was very, very scary," she said. "I was on the phone with her and the phone went dead. The house went black."

Thankfully, she said, they were OK.

Since the tornado caused by the early bands of Milton, Caudle said she is taking the road to recovery one slow step at a time.

Her windows are broken, the garage door was crumped by the storm, her roof is damaged, and now her daughter’s truck now has a shattered windshield.

“We only have one way in and out of the house," Caudle said. "Just wrapping my mind around it all."

She says FEMA came by Thursday and helped them file a claim. The city put out dumpsters for residents to use, and debris piles have all been removed.

Cocoa Beach is also offering dumpsters for storm debris. They are located at the Public Works Department at 1600 Minutemen Causeway.
