He and two colleagues came under fire on Aug. 2, leading to a deadly shootout.

Ever since the shooting, families and business owners have rallied to support the families of those deputies.

The Clermont Main Street organization rallied its various businesses in downtown Clermont to raise money for the deputies’ families, but they say strengthening the bonds that connect the people in uniform and those who live and work in the community is more important.

“Men, women, daughters, sons, uncles, aunts, brothers — they all put on a uniform every single day to make sure we have the right to drive to our jobs, to be with our family, and when one of them is affected,we are all affected,” said Clermont Main Street member Gigi Capria.
