ORLANDO, Fla. — Saturday was a somber day in Lake County as the community gathers to remember a deputy who died in the line of duty.
Master Deputy Bradley Link was killed one week ago after ambushed at a home in Eustis.
A celebration of life was held at the Real Life Church in Clermont. More than a thousand people came from all across Central Florida to remember Deputy Link.
He and two colleagues came under fire on Aug. 2, leading to a deadly shootout.
Ever since the shooting, families and business owners have rallied to support the families of those deputies.
The Clermont Main Street organization rallied its various businesses in downtown Clermont to raise money for the deputies’ families, but they say strengthening the bonds that connect the people in uniform and those who live and work in the community is more important.
“Men, women, daughters, sons, uncles, aunts, brothers — they all put on a uniform every single day to make sure we have the right to drive to our jobs, to be with our family, and when one of them is affected,we are all affected,” said Clermont Main Street member Gigi Capria.
While people gather today to remember Deputy Link, they want those closely impacted to know there will be continued support, even in the weeks to come.
