MELBOURNE, Fla. — The National Weather Service confirmed Thursday night that an EF-0 tornado touched down in Melbourne earlier in the evening.

According to information from the NWS, the tornado hit the Ixora Park neighborhood near Sarno Road just before 6 p.m. and stayed on the ground for about three minutes.

Damaged and torn-off roofs and other debris could be seen in the area after the storm. Residents who spoke with Spectrum News said the storm sounded "like a hurricane" as it moved through the area.

The National Weather Service said no injuries had been reported in connection with the tornado.
