OCALA, Fla. — Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol say a Marion County school bus crashed into a residence early Wednesday after getting into an accident at the intersection of SW 31st Avenue Road and Marion Oaks Trail.

FHP public information officer Lt. Patrick Riordan said there were no children on the bus at the time, and troopers were not aware of anyone being inside the residence when it was hit.

According to information from FHP, the crash happened just after 8 a.m. as the school bus was driving through the intersection on westbound Marion Oaks Trail.

In a statement from FHP, investigators said a pickup truck being driven by a 25-year-old Ocala woman was driving south on SW 31st Avenue Road when it "failed to stop for the stop sign" and collided with the bus.

The bus continued traveling off the roadway and finally came to a stop when it hit the residence in the 12000 block of SW 31st Avenue Road.

The driver of the bus — who was identified as a 63-year-old Ocala woman — and the driver of the pickup truck were both wearing their seatbelts at the time and only received minor injuries in the crash, the statement said.

Riordan said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and any charges and/or citations are pending.
