LEXINGTON, Ky. — Crafts and culture came together Saturday at the Kentucky Sheep & Fiber Festival.
Several vendors and farmers from around the state were there to sell items such as clothes, crocheted hats and even some artwork.
Deborah Cook, owner of Oak Haven Fiber Farm, brought some of her angora goats with her for the event. She sold raw and washed wool, along with some handmade items.
“I love this event,” Cook said. “This is a fabulous venue to come to; it’s centrally located here in the state. I get to network with other farmers and fiber artists here that are interested in the same things I am, and it’s a fun community to be around.”
The Kentucky Sheep & Fiber Festival has been around for 15 years. The event is aimed at supporting small and local businesses.
“We have people that are doing this out of their home,” said Sarabeth Parido, director of the festival. “There are a lot of cottage industries that we support with this festival, a lot of local producers that are raising the animals on their farm. (They are) all local, most of them are from the Midwest, if not from Kentucky itself, so we are supporting a lot of Kentucky small businesses and a lot of Kentucky farmers here at the festival.”
The Kentucky Sheep & Fiber Festival takes place Sunday until 4 p.m. EDT at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.
