GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Pro-Palestinian protests have broken out on campuses across Florida in recent weeks. The University of Florida police arrested nine people on Monday during the sixth day of pro-Palestinian protests.

Three people were also arrested at a similar event at the University of South Florida in Tampa on the same day.
Steve Orlando, UF spokesperson, said in a statement that the protesters were given fair warning before they were arrested.
“This is not complicated: The University of Florida is not a daycare, and we do not treat protesters like children — they knew the rules, they broke the rules, and they’ll face the consequences,” he said.
“For many days, we have patiently told protesters — many of whom are outside agitators — that they were able to exercise their right to free speech and free assembly.”
Spectrum News’ newsgathering partner, Tampa Bay Times, reported that the Gainesville protests were organized by an umbrella group called the UF Divest Coalition, the Times reported.
Many of the protesters are calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. They say they are standing up for the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza.
Some are calling on universities to not invest in any company that supports Israel.
