LAKE MARY, Fla. — I-4 East is open today after a crash near Lake Mary Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon snarled traffic for hours, causing backups stretching toward the Orlando area.
Florida Highway Patrol officials say a U.S. Army Humvee traveling in the outside travel lane tried to make a lane change to the outside center lane, but another vehicle was traveling eastbound in the outside center lane. The Humvee driver overcorrected and swerved right to avoid colliding with the vehicle in the outside center lane, FHP says. No contact was made between the Humvee and the other vehicle, but the Humvee overturned into the outside shoulder, according to FHP.
The Humvee driver, a 20-year-old man from Orlando, the passenger in the front right seat, a 44-year-old Clermont man, and an 18-year-old man from Orlando who was in rear-right passenger seat of the Humvee were transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to the Seminole County Fire Department, the crash trapped one person underneath the Humvee and resulted in a fuel leak.
The incident remains under investigation, FHP said.
