MELBOURNE, Fla. — One person is dead and three others are injured after a Brightline train struck an SUV at a Melbourne crossing, according to police.
The Melbourne Police Department is currently working an active scene at W.H. Jackson Street near US-1.
They are trying to determine how the SUV got on the tracks as the northbound train approached.
Police say four people were inside the vehicle, including a child. They had to be extracted by Melbourne firefighters.
It's not known if the train was damaged or if any passengers or crew were hurt.
Drivers will need to use an alternate route in that area while the investigation is ongoing.
