ORLANDO, Fla. — Every day, people in our community do some heroic things out of the kindness of their own heart. That’s why they’re called Everyday Heroes. One person in Central Florida takes action to help children during some of the worst times in their lives.
What You Need To Know
- Michael Kean has volunteered with New Hope For Kids for seven years
- He calls it a rewarding experience
- He has always loved working with kids
Twice a month for nine months, Michael Kean gathers the kids together for what he calls a discussion circle. That’s where everyone introduces themselves, with their name and age.
The computer programmer by trade has been volunteering at New Hope For Kids for roughly seven years.
Kean has quickly become a friend to the kids.
He recalled seeing a description about New Hope For Kids while having lunch one day. He did some research and knew that volunteering with the organization was the right fit for him.
Some of the kids who visit New Hope For Kids are in a really rough situation, losing a family member very tragically.
“It is such a rewarding experience to see these kids, see them laughing, playing and making friends, when you know what they’re going through,” Kean said.
