FLORIDA — Spectrum News examined the history of the emancipation of the slaves in Florida in a Justice for All special “Juneteenth in Florida.”

The special, hosted by Spectrum News anchor Tammie Fields, examines how it took nearly the same amount of time for slaves in Florida to learn they were free, as those in Galveston, Texas.

The Justice for All piece will re-air Saturday, June 17, at 4 p.m.

The 30-minute special also looks at how the history surrounding the emancipation of Florida slaves was written, and, in some cases, not written, and why the idea of reparations is hotly debated nearly 160 years after the end of the Civil War.

Watch the special on either Spectrum News 13 or Spectrum Bay News 9. Residential customers can also watch on the Spectrum News App.
