HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Police in Hollywood, Fla., say nine people were injured and taken to the hospital after a Memorial Day shooting.

Few details were available, but Hollywood Police Department public information manager Deanna Bettineschi said the shooting was reported at 6:42 p.m. on Johnson Street. Once police were on the scene, they reported finding nine people injured and immediately started to render aid.

In an update, the ages of those who were injured are four children, ages 1 through 17, and five adults, ages 25 through 65.

"Preliminary investigation reveals that this was an altercation between two groups that resulted in gunfire," Bettineschi said.

The nine individuals were taken to two different hospitals.

Bettineschi said a person of interest has been detailed, but a second person is still being sought.

Police are asking people to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. 

A family reunification center has been set up at Johnson Street and North Ocean Boulevard, Bettineschi said.

No other information on the conditions of the people injured in the shooting was immediately available.
