The school held the vigil to remember the lives of 9-year-old T’yonna Major, who was shot and killed in February.

About 25 people turned out for the gathering inside the school cafeteria.

The vigil included prayers and remembrance for the children that lost their lives to gun violence.

Gun violence has been a hot topic throughout central Florida for years now.

City leaders, have set up a citizens task force to try and solve the problem.

Many believe that more money should go toward mentoring programs to guide young people and steer them away from firearms.

Joshua Bryant, 20, believes in mentoring.

“I think it can better their lives. I think it could help them understand how precious things are in life,” said Bryant.

Bryant received mentoring from a group called “Want Your Name In Lights” as a young man seeking a musical career.

He feels the guidance is important for young people today.

“I feel it can help them gather self esteem in life, they will feel better about themselves,” he said.
