What You Need To Know
- The Magic now have their 2022 draft picks under contract
- Orlando announced Sunday that it had reached a deal with Caleb Houstan
- Houstan was the team's second-round pick, No. 32 overall
Houstan, who was selected No. 32 overall, is a 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward who started 34 games last season at Michigan. He led the Wolverines in 3-point shooting with a 35.5% percentage. Overall, he averaged 10.1 points, four rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Houstan, who played three seasons at Montverde Academy in Montverde, has averaged 14 points per game in Orlando’s first two NBA Summer League games.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, as is standard practice with the franchise.
Houstan’s signing followed the re-signing of centers Mo Bamba and Bol Bol late last week. Multiple media indicated Bamba’s deal was for two years and about $21 million.
First-round pick Paolo Banchero received a deal that could be for $49 million-$50 million over four years, according to multiple reports. Contracts for first-round picks in the NBA are assigned to a pay range under the terms of the league’s collective bargaining agreement. The first two years are guaranteed, and the team has options to extend the contracts for two additional years, which is the common practice.
The Magic also inked guard Gary Harris to a two-year contract extension valued at $26 million June 30.
