ORLANDO, Fla. — Last month, Universal Orlando confirmed that the Universal Studios Classic Monster Cafe at Universal Studios Florida had permanently closed to make way for a new dining experience.

What You Need To Know

  • Construction walls have been installed around Monsters Cafe

  • Universal confirmed last month the restaurant had closed permanently

  • No details were shared on what will replace it, but images of Minions added to the walls offer a hint

The longtime restaurant was known for its themed decor featuring props and memorabilia that paid tribute to iconic monsters such as Dracula and The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

So far, Universal hasn’t shared any details about what will replace Monsters Cafe. However, recent activity around the restaurant might offer a hint.

Construction walls were installed around the building this week, but it’s what was included on the walls that’s the most interesting development.

Cutouts of Minions, the yellow creatures from the “Despicable Me” films, have been placed on the construction walls. One cutout even depicts the Minions in hard hats sitting on a construction beam.

Could a Minions-themed eatery be in the works? Maybe, maybe not. Universal hasn’t officially announced anything.

It’s also worth noting that the construction walls around the former Shrek 4-D attraction also feature images of Minions. Universal hasn’t announced what’s replacing that either.
