WINTER PARK, Fla. — While Florida isn’t known for skiing and snowboarding, there is a place where skiers can go to polish up their skills.

Winterclub Indoor Ski and Snowboard of Winter Park provides an outlet for snow skiers and snowboards without the actual snow.

“Clientele is probably 60% never seen snow and they are going out for the first time,” said owner David Scott.

What You Need To Know

  • Winterclub Indoor Ski and Snowboard of Winter Park has been providing an outlet for snow skiers and snowboarders for a decade
  • The indoor ski facility has two slopes where skiers come to practice and even learn how to ski
  • The unique rotating ski hill is adjustable with various levels for riders who want to go both slow and fast
  • Open to all ages serving children as young as two

The man-made electronic rotating ski hill is one of the few places in Central Florida where skiers can practice and learn how to ski or snowboard.

The facility provides the boots, poles and skies for customers.

Brian Pokropski of Melbourne has been driving to the ski hill for years and learned how to ski at Winterclub.

“You put your boots on. Get on the surface and you start practicing your ski turns just like you would on the mountain,” Pokropski explained.

The skier is preparing for an upcoming trip to Snowshoe, West Virginia.

“There is always a little bit of uneasiness. So, pressure, transition, pressure, transition, pressure. Try not to catch edge,” said Pokropski, while riding on one of the rotating slopes.

The owner says the one-of-a-kind facility attracts skiers from all over the world, including South America, where riders come often while visiting central Florida.

The indoor ski hill also brings in locals preparing for upcoming mountain ski trips.

Jack Traynor of Windemere brought his 2-year-old son JT and 4-year-old daughter Josie to Winterclub to prepare for an upcoming trip to Colorado.

Traynor and his wife believe by having their children practice beforehand, there will be less wasted time on the real snow slopes.

“JT is becoming a little less fearless of the speed, so he’s doing a great job today,” said Traynor.
