What You Need To Know

  • FDLE investigated an officer-involved shooting near The Mall at Millenia

  • The man believed to be in his 20’s has died

  • Orlando Police don’t know yet whether man died from self-inflicted injuries or from one of the officer’s gunshots

Chief Orlando Rolon said in a news conference overnight that the man, later identified as 20-year-old Sebastian Sepulveda Roman, was asked to leave Neiman Marcus after acting irrationally. Rolon said an officer working extra duty escorted him outside when shots were fired and the man ran off.

On Sunday, Orlando Police said that the officer working extra duty did not discharge his weapon because he was concerned for the safety of the people in the parking lot.

Rolon said the officer called for backup when the man ran off. A second officer found the man across the street near the Olive Garden restaurant. Police say the two fired at each other while the officer was inside his vehicle, and the man being pursued died at the scene.

Police don’t know yet whether the man died from self-inflicted injuries or from one of the officer’s gunshots, according to Rolon. Ballistics will determine which bullet casings belonged to which guns at the two scenes.

Both officers are on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the use of force, as is protocol.

The names of the officers involved are not being released.
