VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County Beach Safety is warning beachgoers of dangerous surf conditions this weekend.

Beach safety officers are delaying the opening of some beach access ramps Saturday morning because of high tide. Officials say they should be open around 11 a.m.
Volusia Beach Safety says they have already performed 29 rescues, with most occurring Friday.
Capt. Laura Warner said many of the rescues happened around 3rd Avenue in New Smyrna Beach. She also said lifeguards were busy at the beach near Ocean Walk.
Officers have also been citing people for disturbances and alcohol violations.
Beach safety officials say more Red Flags are being flown this morning after the surf picked up overnight.
Here are tips on how to stay safe at the beach:
- Always swim in front of a lifeguard
- Stay calm if you get caught in a rip tide
- Call for help and try to swim parallel to the shore if you’re a good swimmer
