OBION COUNTY, Tenn. — Two men were reportedly killed on a Tennessee farm Thursday after being attacked by an escaped camel.

The Obion County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene to help deal with the rampaging animal just before 4:45 p.m. CST. Investigators said the attack happened at Shirley Farms on South Bluff Road in Obion, Tenn.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found two unconscious victims on the ground, and while rendering aid they also had to move them to safety because the camel's attack was ongoing.

"The camel attacked an Obion County Sheriff's Office vehicle, then move(d) toward deputies who were attempting to move a victim to EMS," the Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. "It was at this time officers had to put the camel down for the safety of everyone on scene."

The victims were identified as Bobby Matheny, 42, of Ridely, Tenn., and Tommy Gunn, 67, of Obion, Tenn. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said. 

No other information about the incident was immediately released.

Along with the Obion County Sheriff's Office, the Ridgely Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Lake County Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
