OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – It’s a controversial bill causing parents on opposite sides of the spectrum to speak out.
Roxy Torres is the mother of a 9-month-old baby and a toddler who will soon go to school. This Osceola County parent said she is glad the Parental Rights in Education bill-- also known as the Don’t Say Gay bill, passed. A bill that bans instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in grade levels Kindergarten through third grade.
“I believe that there are things that should be discussed in schools and some other things should be discussed at home with the parents,” Torres said.
Torres said she just doesn’t want school material to sway her children socially.
Critics believe this is the type of policy that will silence the voices of the LGBT community.
